Earth-Ranger Hirola Monitoring

HCP is a proud member of the EarthRanger fraternity. We utilize the EarthRanger platform as a paperless monitoring tool and centralized database to combine data from our various
Hirola community protected areas including the Bura East Community Conservancy, Ishaqbini Hirola Community Conservancy, Arawale National Reserve and other outlying
Hirola strongholds. This powerful tool integrates data from ranger patrols, hirola monitoring teams and habitat monitoring teams.

A key strength of EarthRanger is its integration with the FLAD (Fire, Land, and Deforestation) monitoring system enables us to detect and respond to wildfires, illegal logging of indigenous tree species, and habitat degradation, which are major drivers of the decline of the hirola population. Additionally, our rangers use the platform to log poaching incidents, snares, and illegal activities during patrols, generating heat maps that reveal poaching hotspots and guide targeted anti-poaching efforts. EarthRanger empowers HCP to make data-driven decisions, enhance rapid response, and secure the hirola’s last remaining strongholds by consolidating ecological, threat, and patrol data in one system.
